The course format for the winter 23/24 will be the same as last year. The traditional classroom sessions of the Level 1 & 2 courses will now be completed online through a series of modules created by AIARE (American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education). Once the online learning is complete, course participants will be required to engage in a webinar with MountainSavvy instructors. Goals of the webinar are to address the curriculums learning outcomes and clarify any questions, provide a deeper understanding of the content, discuss the requirements and expectations of the field sessions (2 full days for L1, 3 full days for L2) as well as create awareness in regards to meeting times and locations. The field sessions will be held in the Mt Hood National Forest adjacent to Timberline and Mt Hood Meadows Ski Areas.
We are extremely excited for this winter. MountainSavvy instructors are dedicated to providing a path for ongoing learning and mentorship. Our instructors are highly experienced and hold the highest level certifications for avalanche education. Their operational experience as ski patrollers, guides and rescuers add significant depth to their knowledge which translates to a better educational experience for you. Where else will you have an instructor who is a 4 time Mt Everest summiteer??? Our goal is to help you become a safer and more responsible backcountry user through advancing your skills and experience, we want you to be an asset to the community.
Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email, links to the online learning will be sent 2 weeks before your chosen field days, the online webinar will happen in the evening two days before your field days.
