AVALANCHE SAFETY COURSES
      IN
THE NORTHWEST

Level 1 and Level 2 Avalanche Safety Courses geared to backcountry skiers, snowboarders, mountaineers and snowmobilers.   


Two, three and four-day courses consisting of video presentations, interactive discussion and hands-on field training with state-of-the-art snow rescue equipment.  Participants learn to read the clues of snowpack, weather and terrain; evaluate hazard and assess risk; Participate in beacon searches; Analyze and test snow stability; Participate in search & rescue scenarios. 

LEVEL 1 Courses

Mt Hood Sessions: FULL December 10-11 FULL January 7-8 FULL February 11-12 nearly FULL March 10-11
FULL December 17-18 FULL January 21-22 nearly FULL February 25-26
                 * new registrants to sessions marked "full" will be added to a waiting list in the order registration is received
                 Two-day Level 1 courses will have an optional 3rd day allowing students to earn a second certificate in addition to the one provided with successful completion of the two-day course.

The Lead Instructor for all courses will be Glenn Kessler, Northwest Climbing Ranger and local authority on snow and avalanche. Glenn is a Lead Climbing Ranger at Mt Rainier National Park where he has served since 2000, following 8 years of service as Climbing Ranger on Mt Hood.  He is a Professional member of the American Avalanche Association and an Active member of the Canadian Avalanche Association, having earned its Ski Operations Certification. and is an official provider of Canadian Avalanche Centre AST Courses.  Glenn has been instructing ski mountaineering, backcountry skiing and avalanche safety courses for over a dozen years.
